A single performance benchmark tells the story: D-Wave Quantum Inc.’s (NASDAQ: QBTS) upgraded Stride hybrid solver now delivers superior solutions in 15 seconds that its predecessor required 120 seconds to produce.
That eightfold reduction in time-to-solution was measured on assembly line balancing problems, one of several enterprise-grade optimization challenges used to stress-test the enhanced solver against its earlier version.
The gains extend further for large-scale routing problems, where the updated solver tackled traveling salesperson problems involving up to 10,000 locations and returned answers averaging within 0.02% of the mathematically optimal result.
At the same runtime, those results were more than 200 times closer to the optimal outcome than the previous version of the solver could achieve, a margin that underscores how substantially the underlying algorithm has been reworked.
For problems exceeding 10,000 locations, the enhanced solver produced solutions within 3.8% of optimal in 120 seconds, outperforming its predecessor at the same runtime by a factor of more than 500 times.
The upgraded solver, which blends quantum and classical computing resources, is now accessible through D-Wave’s Leap quantum cloud service, which the Palo Alto-based company operates at 99.9% availability.
Alongside the solver improvements, D-Wave announced a three-course Applied Quantum Optimization learning path aimed at narrowing the gap between quantum capability and practical business deployment.
The curriculum covers identifying viable optimization use cases, constructing mathematical models, and developing working applications using the Stride solver, with select courses offering direct Leap cloud access and instructor office hours.
Alex Condello, D-Wave’s senior vice president of algorithms, performance and tools, framed the dual announcement as a response to the pace of commercial decision-making, saying: “In a highly disruptive world, the ability to adapt plans, reallocate resources and act quickly is critical. We’re giving developers the technology and practical expertise to make hybrid-quantum optimization part of how their businesses respond in real time.”
D-Wave, which counts more than 100 organizations across commercial, government, and research sectors among its customers, holds the distinction of being the world’s first commercial quantum computer supplier and the only provider offering both annealing and gate-model quantum computing products.
The training courses are immediately available through the Leap quantum cloud service, extending a platform that the company has built into its primary channel for delivering optimization tools to enterprise developers.
