A striking three-way split across politically and culturally linked media stocks defined Monday’s afternoon session with no single macro catalyst fully explaining the moves.
Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT), trading at $5.93, has climbed 6% on the day despite carrying a 55% year-to-date loss that underscores how disconnected its price action remains from its financials.
Rumble (NASDAQ: RUM) moved in the opposite direction, falling 3% to $5.17, extending a bruising month that has already wiped out 32% of the stock’s value.
Reddit (NYSE: RDDT) managed a 2% gain to $93.55, partially recovering from what was its worst single trading day on record, logged just days earlier on October 30.
With U.S. midterm elections scheduled for November 3, traders appear to be pricing political sentiment into DJT, a stock whose movements have long correlated more with Donald Trump’s brand than with any revenue metric.
The broader market backdrop offered mild tailwinds, with the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA: SPY) up 0.5% and the Invesco QQQ Trust (NASDAQ: QQQ) adding 0.4%, though DJT’s swing dwarfed both indexes by a wide margin.
Falling oil prices, down more than 4% on the session, and declining Treasury yields created conditions that can favor speculative, high-beta names, though that link to DJT’s specific move remains tenuous at best.
Beneath the election-driven momentum sits a business still posting substantial losses, with Trump Media recording a net loss of $238.11 million in Q2 2026 against revenue of just $1.7 million, a figure that rose 92.5% year over year but remains negligible in absolute terms.
The bulk of that loss, $190.4 million, stemmed from non-cash unrealized losses on digital assets and equity securities, with a further $25.6 million attributable to legal expenses tied in part to the company’s Truth API product.
Launched on August 1 with more than ten customer agreements, the Truth API sells Wall Street clients including Bloomberg and two high-frequency trading firms a milliseconds-early look at Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts for fees reaching $100,000 per month.
The product has attracted a lawsuit, regulatory scrutiny, and proposed Senate legislation, with critics questioning whether official government communications can be commercially licensed through a premium data feed.
A pending merger with fusion energy company TAE Technologies, targeted for completion in Q4 2026, represents Trump Media’s most significant structural bet beyond its social media and streaming operations.
Rumble’s decline tells a different story rooted firmly in deteriorating fundamentals, with Q1 2026 revenue dropping 15.8% year over year to $25.46 million and the company missing both earnings and revenue estimates for four consecutive quarters.
Reddit’s partial rebound came after its Q3 2026 results spooked investors, even though sales climbed 53% year over year to $894.96 million, because CEO Steve Huffman disclosed that search referral traffic was “down meaningfully in Q3.”
Huffman framed the problem as a distribution issue rather than a demand failure, stating, “People still want Reddit. It says Google is not sending them to Reddit the way they used to.”
Despite that reassurance, the company cautioned that Q4 daily active users could decline by a low-double-digit percentage if the traffic trend persists, even as it guided Q4 revenue to a range of $1 billion to $1.03 billion.
The three stocks illustrate how differently election cycles, platform economics, and search-engine dependency can drive outcomes across what superficially appears to be a single media category.
