GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) shares climbed nearly 2% in after-hours trading Tuesday after CEO Ryan Cohen made another significant personal investment in the company.
According to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Cohen purchased 450,000 shares at $23.48 per share, bringing the total transaction value to approximately $10.6 million.
Following the purchase, Cohen directly owns nearly 41 million shares of GameStop, continuing a pattern of consistent insider accumulation throughout 2026.
The latest buy is part of a broader series of direct stock acquisitions Cohen has executed across the year, steadily expanding his personal stake in the retailer.
On September 21, Cohen bought 1.15 million shares across multiple transactions priced between $22.76 and $23.02, representing a combined outlay of roughly $26.4 million.
Earlier that month, on September 10, he acquired 1 million shares at an average price of $20.38 per share, totaling $20.4 million in additional exposure.
Cohen also picked up 1 million shares in January at approximately $21.36 per share, further building his position during the first month of the year.
In aggregate, his 2026 purchases have expanded his direct holdings by more than 3.6 million shares, with recent regulatory filings showing no stock sales on his part.
Factoring in shares purchasable through corporate warrants, Cohen’s total ownership now represents approximately 8.8% of GameStop’s outstanding stock.
GameStop’s most recent Q2 2026 earnings report showed meaningful bottom-line growth despite ongoing pressure on revenue, with net sales falling 19% year-over-year to $790.2 million due to weaker hardware and software demand.
Net income, however, surged 77% to $298.7 million, driven by aggressive overhead reduction and rapid expansion in its high-margin collectibles and trading cards segment.
The company also benefited from substantial non-operating investment gains tied to its approximately 43.4 million-share position in eBay, which helped fuel the jump in profitability.
GME stock has gained around 13% year-to-date, and retail sentiment on Stocktwits was characterized as “bullish” with “high” message volumes following Tuesday’s disclosure.
Cohen’s repeated open-market purchases signal sustained confidence in the company’s strategic direction at a time when GameStop continues navigating a challenging retail environment.
