January 6, 2009

by Jeremy R. Hammond

The CIA-ISI axis - India should have no illusions of US support

January 6, 2009

by  C  Uday  Bhaskar

While India seeks to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai carnage to book, there should be no illusions about the degree to which other nations will whole-heartedly support the Indian expectation from Islamabad. The US dependence on the Pakistani military goes well beyond the presence of its troops in Afghanistan and the proposed 'surge' strategy in the Obama watch. The CIA-ISI linkages are embedded in a murky past and Indian expectations from the US will have to be tempered accordingly.

Eh Phou Thoung's sonEh Phou Thoung and Oed Phuo Thoung are Cambodia’s champion fighters but they live in squalor and obscurity.

January 3, 2009

by Antonio Graceffo

Cambodia suffers from such a lack of marketing that even Angkor Wat failed to be recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Ask strangers on a street in Europe or America, and most likely the only famous Cambodian they can name is Pol Pot. The only other names which come up frequently in search engines and chat rooms are the two Khmer boxing champions, brothers Eh Phou Thoung and Oed Phou Thoung.

Americans Should Act to End Violence Against Gaza

December 30, 2008

by Jeremy R. Hammond

Israel's bombardment of the Gaza Strip was predictable, if not preventable. Israel's crimes against the Palestinians simply could not take place on such a massive scale were it not for US support. The American people, therefore, have a responsibility to act and pressure their government to end its financial, military, and diplomatic support for Israeli violations of international law -- a necessary first step towards any viable and sustainable peace.

File:B-2 leading Valiant Shield.jpgIs the ‘New World Order’ Changing Yet Again?

A view from Pakistan

December 26, 2008

by Shahid R. Siddiqi

A “New Multi-polar World Order” is now emerging that is likely to create a balance of power with a hope for stability. Some even prefer to call it the Real World Order in which the US will no more be able to control the international agenda. Smaller countries of Asia that bore the brunt of America's aggressive policies are taking a sigh of relief at the demise of American imperialism, remaining skeptical of the shape of things to come. But despite all of its troubles, America cannot be written off, not completely, not yet.

Lies About Real Estate Investing

December 24, 2008

by Antonio Graceffo

The current world financial tsunami started with the collapse of American mortgages. Many people who over-strapped themselves, and bankrupted their families with homes they couldn’t afford believed they were doing the right thing. Their whole lives they were told that a home is a great investment, money in the bank. Now they are learning, a bit too late, that it’s not.

Translation vs. Natural Language Acquisition

One focuses on nuts and bolts, but they both focus on communication.

December 24, 2008

by Antonio Graceffo

Natural Language Acquisition methods shy away from the teaching of grammar, and the idea is that the student must think in the target language and then he will simply understand the same way a native speaker does. Generally, for translators, these methods are not recommended because translators do need to use dictionaries and focus on the language when it comes to very specific technical vocabulary.

Elements of an Inside Job in Mumbai Attacks

December 19, 2008

What’s clear now, as further developments have come to light, is that there are also elements within India, both in the criminal underworld and the government, that are perfectly willing to see the role in the Mumbai attacks of an even larger shadowy international criminal network whitewashed; a network with links to numerous moneyed interests, including trafficking in drugs and arms, and to numerous intelligence agencies, including the ISI, the CIA, and India’s own RAW.

The Status Quote

The Shan People of BurmaWe need an immediate ceasefire. The blame game can continue afterwards, but this dangerous moment, I think, requires us to act ” -- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the crisis in Gaza, in an unusual breaking with the US position of allowing Israel to wage disproportionate warfare with impunity and blocking any attempt by the United Nations Security Council to act to end the violence.
