Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, held talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens on Thursday as part of an official visit aimed at deepening ties between the UAE and Greece.

The Crown Prince arrived at the Prime Minister’s Office, where he was received by Mitsotakis along with several Greek ministers and senior officials, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

The two leaders first held bilateral discussions on the state of UAE-Greece relations and how to build on recent progress in what both governments describe as a strategic partnership. They then joined expanded talks with ministers and officials from both delegations, focusing on turning shared objectives into concrete projects and improving coordination between the relevant institutions in each country.

Mitsotakis welcomed the Emirati delegation and said Greece was committed to strengthening cooperation with the UAE across a range of fields. The two leaders also exchanged greetings, with Sheikh Khaled passing on the good wishes of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Greek prime minister sending his own in return.

Investment in focus

Economic ties were central to the discussions. The Crown Prince praised the results of the joint UAE-Greece investment initiative, noting that strategic projects had been completed in several key sectors. He said the progress showed the two countries could turn investment opportunities into projects with a measurable economic impact.

The sides discussed widening the initiative, which is valued at €4 billion. They also looked at expanding links between Emirati and Greek companies and institutions, with an emphasis on sustainable growth, competitiveness, innovation and the exchange of expertise.

Other areas on the agenda included energy and renewable energy, infrastructure, advanced technology and healthcare, alongside broader economic and investment cooperation.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office separately reported that, on the sidelines of the visit, the UAE announced its intention to invest an additional €15 billion in Greece. Further details were published in a separate release.

Regional issues

The leaders also reviewed regional and international developments, with a particular focus on the Middle East. According to the Abu Dhabi statement, both sides stressed the need for stronger international efforts to support security, peace and stability in the region, and backed dialogue and diplomatic solutions as the basis for long-term development and prosperity.

Sheikh Khaled was accompanied by a senior delegation, including Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court.
