BigBear.ai Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: BBAI) has secured more than $225 million in federal contract awards since July 2026, deepening its footprint across homeland security, defense, intelligence and federal civilian markets.

The awards include both new contracts and successful recompetes, reinforcing the company’s standing in national security as well as trade and travel sectors while broadening its government customer base.

Shares of BBAI gained 3.9% during trading hours following the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s expanding federal pipeline.

BigBear.ai secured more than 25 new generative artificial intelligence awards across federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, NASA, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Energy and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Its platforms provide secure access to advanced AI models and agentic tools, including in disconnected and air-gapped environments where data protection is a critical operational requirement.

The company also expanded its defense and intelligence footprint through contracts supporting U.S. Central Command, U.S. Southern Command and classified intelligence customers across mission-critical government operations.

BigBear.ai additionally secured two significant recompete awards supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection through separate partnerships with Science Applications International Corporation and Unissant, reinforcing its relationship with the agency.

Those contracts are focused on supporting the safe and efficient movement of travelers and cargo across U.S. borders, an area of growing federal investment given current trade and immigration priorities.

The latest contract momentum builds on improving financial performance, with second quarter 2026 revenues rising 13% year over year to $36.7 million, driven by contributions from Ask Sage’s generative AI platforms and products.

Gross margin expanded to 32.8% from 25% a year earlier, reflecting a more favorable revenue mix as the company shifts toward higher-value AI-driven service offerings.

The company’s backlog reached $269.6 million as of June 30, 2026, up 9% from year-end 2025, providing a solid foundation for near-term revenue visibility.

Management reaffirmed its full-year revenue guidance of $135 million to $165 million, signaling confidence in continued contract execution through the remainder of the fiscal year.

Despite the contract wins, BBAI shares have declined 36.9% over the past six months, significantly underperforming the Zacks Computers – IT Services industry’s 5.6% gain over the same period.

Persistent operating losses, elevated growth-related expenses and uncertainty surrounding government contract conversions remain key concerns for investors monitoring the company’s path to profitability.

BigBear.ai currently carries a Zacks Rank of 3, or Hold, as analysts weigh its expanding federal pipeline against ongoing financial headwinds and execution risks tied to large-scale government programs.
