Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR) has emerged as a standout performer among Bitcoin-linked equities, with its shares climbing roughly 60% over the past three months.
The rally stands in sharp contrast to the performance of U.S.-listed Bitcoin miners, with Riot Platforms (NASDAQ: RIOT) and CleanSpark (NASDAQ: CLSK) falling 19.7% and 17.3%, respectively, over the same period.
The divergence underscores how exposure to the same underlying asset can produce radically different outcomes depending on a company’s business model and capital structure.
Strategy’s share price is driven primarily by its Bitcoin treasury rather than its enterprise analytics software, which continues to generate recurring revenue but attracts relatively little investor attention.
As of October 4, the company held 848,000 Bitcoin, up from 672,500 at the end of 2025, with its most recent purchase consisting of 334 coins acquired for $28.7 million, bringing total acquisition costs to $63.97 billion.
Unlike a spot Bitcoin fund, however, Strategy also carries corporate financing obligations and management execution risk that investors must weigh carefully against the potential upside of a growing treasury.
A key metric to watch is Bitcoin per diluted share, which rose 5% to 210,824 satoshis during the second quarter under the company’s own calculation, though the figure later stood at 203,683 satoshis by late July.
That decline highlights why investors should track changes in the share base closely, rather than treating every additional Bitcoin purchase as an unqualified benefit to existing shareholders.
On the financial results front, Strategy reported second-quarter 2026 revenues rising 6.9% to $122.4 million, but an $8.32 billion unrealized Bitcoin loss pushed operating results to an $8.33 billion loss for the period.
Preliminary third-quarter estimates point to a $20.91 billion digital-asset gain as Bitcoin prices recovered, though these largely noncash valuation swings make quarterly results exceptionally difficult to forecast.
Strategy’s financing position has nonetheless grown more flexible, with management reducing convertible debt from $8.2 billion to $6.7 billion during the second quarter while raising $8.4 billion through securities offerings.
By October 4, the company’s dedicated dollar reserve reached $4.88 billion, with an additional $833.4 million of cash available for broader corporate purposes, providing a meaningful buffer against cryptocurrency market weakness.
Recent repurchases of STRC preferred stock could also reduce future dividend demands, though recurring payments remain substantial and additional common-share issuance continues to pose a dilution risk for existing investors.
From a valuation perspective, Strategy trades at a forward 12-month price-to-sales ratio of 114.08, far above CleanSpark at 4.64 times forward sales and Riot Platforms at 8.15 times, and carries a Value Score of F.
The combination of a steep premium valuation, potential share dilution, and a 60% run-up in just three months makes the near-term risk-reward profile less attractive for investors considering a fresh position at current levels.
Investors already holding MSTR may reasonably maintain their positions while monitoring Bitcoin per diluted share, reserve coverage ratios, and the upcoming earnings release for clearer signals of per-share value creation.
Strategy currently carries a Zacks Rank of 3, equivalent to a Hold rating, reflecting a balanced outlook that acknowledges both the improved financial flexibility and the elevated valuation risks still present in the stock.
