Alvotech (NASDAQ: ALVO) received an upgrade from Barclays after the U.S. FDA closed its May 2026 inspection of the company’s manufacturing facility in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The FDA confirmed the site’s inspection classification as Voluntary Action Indicated, or VAI, removing a key regulatory overhang that had weighed on investor sentiment.

Alvotech stated that the VAI outcome reflects work undertaken to strengthen quality systems and manufacturing operations at the Reykjavik site.

Barclays analyst Glen Santangelo had previously lowered his price target on Alvotech to $4.00 from $5.00 while maintaining an Underweight rating on the biosimilar company.

Santangelo had noted concerns about the company’s financial flexibility, citing high leverage alongside continued research, development, and capital expenditure commitments.

The firm had also indicated it expected Alvotech to remain in a holding pattern until U.S. regulatory approvals cleared in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The FDA’s closure of the Reykjavik inspection now clears a critical hurdle for multiple pipeline products awaiting approval decisions in the near term.

Alvotech recently resubmitted Biologics License Applications for AVT05, a biosimilar to Simponi, and AVT06, a proposed biosimilar to Eylea, with decisions anticipated in Q4 2026.

The FDA also accepted a BLA submission for AVT16, a proposed biosimilar to Entyvio, in June 2026, with a decision expected in early 2027.

The string of regulatory developments represents a meaningful shift in the outlook for Alvotech, which has been building its U.S. biosimilar portfolio amid intense competition in the sector.

Regulatory clearance at the manufacturing level is often a prerequisite for commercial approvals, making the VAI classification a pivotal moment for the company’s near-term pipeline strategy.

Investor sentiment around Alvotech had been under pressure in recent months as uncertainty surrounding the Reykjavik facility’s inspection status created hesitation ahead of multiple anticipated approval milestones.

With that uncertainty now resolved, the company enters the second half of 2026 with a clearer regulatory runway and several approval catalysts on the horizon.
