Fox News (NASDAQ: FOX) has confirmed the departure of longtime anchor Maria Bartiromo, ending her 12-and-a-half-year tenure with the network.
The network issued a brief statement acknowledging the split, saying: “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 1/2 years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”
Bartiromo joined Fox Business and the Fox News Channel in 2014 after building her reputation as a prominent anchor at CNBC.
During her time at Fox, she hosted several programs carrying her name, most notably “Mornings with Maria,” which became a staple of the network’s business coverage lineup.
Fox News confirmed that its shows bearing Bartiromo’s name will be rebranded, with a rotating cast of anchors stepping in to fill her former time slots.
Bartiromo had long been one of the network’s most vocal supporters of President Trump, a position that brought her significant attention both on and off the air.
Following Trump’s loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, Bartiromo used her platform to amplify unfounded theories of election fraud, drawing widespread scrutiny and legal consequences for the network.
Her on-air comments, along with statements made by guests she invited onto her programs, featured prominently in a defamation lawsuit brought against Fox by voting technology company Dominion Voting Systems.
Fox settled the Dominion case for more than $787 million just as the trial was set to begin, one of the largest media defamation settlements in American history.
Bartiromo also featured heavily as an individual defendant in a separate multibillion-dollar defamation suit filed by a voting software company against Fox News over its coverage of the 2020 election.
Until her departure, Bartiromo was the only individual defendant in that ongoing case who was still actively employed by the network, a distinction that had drawn considerable legal and public attention.
Her exit closes a significant chapter in Fox’s business news programming and leaves unresolved questions about the network’s legal exposure in the remaining defamation proceedings.
