Raekwon the Chef, founding member of Wu-Tang Clan, walked into Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) headquarters in 2010 when the company was largely unknown outside of government contracting circles.
At the time, Palantir was a modest Silicon Valley startup with a few hundred employees and a valuation of just $735 million, drawing most of its revenue from government contracts.
The hip-hop icon immediately began publicly championing the company, urging fans to “google them” and wearing a custom Palantir jacket in his music videos.
In 2010, Raekwon appeared on the BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher 1 sporting a Palantir-branded jacket alongside rappers including Wiz Khalifa and Yelawolf, giving the then-obscure firm unexpected cultural visibility.
CEO Alex Karp welcomed Raekwon back to Palantir’s headquarters this month, with the company broadcasting the visit across its social media platforms and referring to the rapper as one of its “OGs.”
Palantir posted on X: “It was great to have @Raekwon at our office again. Congratulations to the Wu-Tang Clan on their farewell tour. Never forget your OGs.”
Raekwon reposted the photos shared by Palantir on August 21, responding warmly with: “Yes, thank you for the invite!! Appreciate the love and support. See y’all soon!!”
Whether Raekwon ever converted his early enthusiasm into an actual financial stake in the company has never been publicly disclosed, though his reception at headquarters suggested a relationship that runs deep.
Palantir’s transformation since that first visit is extraordinary, with its market capitalization now sitting at just under $447 billion, making it one of the most closely watched names in the global AI trade.
That figure represents a market cap more than 600 times greater than the company’s $735 million valuation when Raekwon first appeared on the scene as an unlikely early advocate.
Today, Palantir operates as one of the world’s leading artificial intelligence companies, providing data integration and decision-support software to major corporations, government agencies, and defense organizations worldwide.
The reunion comes as Wu-Tang Clan embarks on a farewell tour, closing out one of hip-hop’s most storied chapters while Palantir continues its rise as a dominant force in enterprise AI.
