Marvell Technology Inc (NASDAQ: MRVL) fell 10.1% to $217.10 on August 28, 2026, after issuing quarterly guidance that disappointed investors despite reporting strong underlying financial results.

The company posted fiscal second-quarter 2027 revenue of approximately $2.7 billion, representing a 36.6% increase year-over-year, driven by robust demand for data center connectivity and custom silicon products.

Gross profit came in at $1.5 billion, with operating profit reaching $459.7 million, while net income attributable to shareholders was $308 million and diluted earnings per share stood at $0.33.

Despite the solid headline numbers, forward guidance missed elevated market expectations, triggering a broad wave of selling that pushed the stock down by $24.385 on the day, with intraday volatility at 3.94%.

The selloff was compounded by a downside gap of approximately $17.79, or 7.37%, with the stock closing near session lows after trading within a daily range of $215.55 to $228.88.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, described the drop as a reflection of overstretched expectations colliding with reality, warning that further downside remains possible if key support levels fail to hold.

“With sentiment shaken after guidance disappointment, I warn that any break below key support could lead to prolonged underperformance for Marvell given current technical and sentiment risks,” Kharitonov said.

Technically, shares are trading below both the 20-day moving average of $222.72 and the 50-day moving average of $230.02, signaling sustained short- and medium-term selling pressure across the stock.

However, Marvell remains well above its 200-day moving average of $148.03, a level that confirms the longer-term bullish structure in the stock has not yet been broken by the recent correction.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, argued that the pullback represents a healthy reset rather than a structural reversal, pointing to continued strength in data center and custom silicon end markets as a foundation for future gains.

“I see this correction as a healthy reset — resilient fundamentals paired with growing end-market demand set the stage for renewed upside,” Karapetjanc said, maintaining a constructive long-term view on the stock.

Analyst Parshwa Turakhiya noted that the gap down and close near session lows highlight immediate bearish pressure, though oscillator readings suggest active two-way trade with both buyers and sellers engaged in the session.

“Traders should watch volatility closely here — a bounce from support could offer a quick reversal play, while breakdowns may invite further scrutiny on sentiment,” Turakhiya said, identifying $208.41 and $220.03 as the critical near-term levels to monitor.

Momentum readings present a mixed picture, with the MACD remaining positive and signaling a buy, while the ADX reads neutral, suggesting the current move lacks defined trend strength in either direction.

The Commodity Channel Index and Bull/Bear Power both show overbought conditions, while the RSI and Stochastic RSI offer conflicting buy and sell signals, reinforcing the uncertain near-term outlook for the stock.
