NuScale Power Corporation (NYSE: SMR), the only small modular reactor company to hold design certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, has announced the deployment of nuclear-specific artificial intelligence tools.
The initiative combines NuScale’s advanced nuclear expertise with Nuclearn’s AtomAssist nuclear AI platform and NPX’s nuclear project and AI implementation experience.
The partnership is designed to strengthen NuScale’s engineering and knowledge-management functions as it pushes toward commercial deployment of its reactor technology.
In an initial proof of concept, NuScale found that designed-for-nuclear AI terminology and workflows could reduce the time required to find relevant information by as much as 80%.
The system also demonstrated an ability to surface the most relevant engineering methods and standards, a capability that could meaningfully accelerate technical decision-making across complex nuclear projects.
NuScale designs, licenses, and commercializes SMR systems for electricity, heat, and clean water, serving utilities, industrial customers, and data centers from its headquarters in Corvallis, Oregon.
The company’s flagship product line, the VOYGR power plant, is built around the 77-MWe NuScale Power Module, a light-water SMR featuring passive safety systems intended to reduce operational risk.
NuScale is actively transitioning from a research-and-development phase toward commercial deployment, arriving at a moment when demand for reliable, carbon-free baseload power is accelerating globally.
Its status as the sole SMR developer to have received design certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission remains a significant competitive differentiator in a crowded and capital-intensive sector.
Despite that regulatory advantage, the company’s stock has faced considerable pressure, declining 72.24% over the past 52 weeks and falling 31.12% year-to-date amid broader volatility across pre-commercial nuclear equities.
Shares hit a 52-week low of $7.21 on July 17, though the stock has since recovered approximately 34.5% from that trough, reflecting renewed investor interest as the AI-and-nuclear narrative gains momentum.
NuScale currently carries a market capitalization of $3.98 billion, a figure that underscores both the scale of investor expectations and the financial risks tied to commercializing an emerging reactor technology.
The deployment of purpose-built AI tools signals a broader industry shift, as nuclear developers increasingly look to advanced software to compress project timelines and manage the regulatory and engineering complexity inherent in nuclear power development.
