GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) is modernizing its Veresegyház manufacturing facility in Hungary as the site marks its 25th anniversary of operations.
The expansion plan includes the construction of a large on-site solar installation designed to dramatically reduce the facility’s dependence on grid-sourced electricity.
GE Vernova has also committed to upgrading its lean manufacturing lines and recruiting more than 80 additional employees at the site over the next several years.
The renewable energy project is being delivered in two phases, beginning with a 2-megawatt solar carport that now covers more than 500 parking spaces at the facility.
The second phase, currently under development, features a 14.5-megawatt photovoltaic system paired with a 40-megawatt-hour battery energy storage facility to support continuous power supply.
The full solar build-out will comprise more than 21,000 panels spread across 15 hectares, with grid connection expected by autumn of last year.
Once fully operational, the solar installation is projected to generate enough renewable electricity to cover approximately 50% of the facility’s annual power consumption of 33 gigawatt-hours.
GE Vernova invested $24.5 million in the Veresegyház site during the previous year, with support from the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).
That funding has been directed toward new lean production lines, advanced precision manufacturing equipment, and five new coating booths fitted with vacuum furnace technology.
The Veresegyház site serves as GE Vernova’s largest Gas Power manufacturing operation outside the United States, specializing in producing and repairing gas turbine components using robotic welding and thermal coating systems.
The company hired around 100 employees at the Hungarian site last year and is now recruiting up to 80 more workers, including machinists, welders, fitters, and assembly operators.

Beyond Veresegyház, GE Vernova also operates a facility in Százhalombatta and maintains a Budapest office that supports its Power, Electrification, and Wind businesses across Hungary.
The investment signals GE Vernova’s continued commitment to expanding its European manufacturing footprint while embedding renewable energy infrastructure directly into its industrial operations.
