Alvarez & Marsal has appointed Val Philippe as Managing Director within its Global Transaction Advisory Group, reinforcing the firm’s financial services dealmaking capabilities across the United States.

Philippe takes on the role of US Co-Leader for Global TAG’s Financial Services industry group, working alongside existing senior leadership to serve private equity sponsors and corporate clients navigating complex transactions.

He brings nearly two decades of experience spanning asset management, specialty finance, banking, payments, fintech and insurance, making him one of the more versatile transaction advisors in the market.

Philippe joins from Reverence Capital, a New York-based multi-strategy investment firm, where he held a senior operating position focused on portfolio management, valuation oversight and firm-level strategic initiatives.

Before his time at Reverence Capital, Philippe spent 16 years at PwC, eventually reaching partner level within the firm’s Financial Services Deals practice, advising clients on due diligence and high-complexity transactions.

Global TAG Practice Leader Paul Aversano pointed to the broader growth trajectory behind the hire, saying: “As our transactions business grows along with market demand, we continue to invest in the senior talent who will help us execute on our commitment to guiding clients through complexity while helping them seize market opportunity.”

Aversano added that bringing in sector specialists like Philippe “further enables us to unlock value for clients, who continue to seek out A&M for our operational, industry, and functional expertise across a globally integrated platform.”

US Co-Leaders Anthony Caporrino and Stacy Kirshner described the appointment as a timely addition, noting that clients are increasingly looking for advisors who combine transactional knowledge with hands-on operational experience rather than purely theoretical deal expertise.

Philippe himself cited cultural alignment as a key factor in joining the firm, stating: “A&M’s results-driven culture and collaborative approach strongly align with my experience and how I work with clients and teams.”

The appointment reflects a wider push by A&M to build out its financial services vertical at a time when private equity activity across fintech, specialty lending and insurance is showing renewed momentum after a period of subdued dealmaking.

A&M positions Global TAG as the largest transaction advisory practice outside the Big Four accounting firms, a distinction it has leaned into when competing for mandates from sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds and family offices alongside traditional PE sponsors.

The firm has historically differentiated itself through its operational consulting roots, combining financial due diligence with the kind of turnaround and performance improvement expertise that most pure-play advisory shops cannot offer in-house.

Philippe’s background at both a major accounting firm and an active investment platform gives him exposure to both the sell-side advisory and the investor-side operational perspectives, which A&M’s leadership believes adds depth to client engagements at the due diligence stage.

Founded in 1983, Alvarez & Marsal operates globally across advisory, business performance improvement and turnaround management, with its transaction advisory arm serving as one of the firm’s core growth engines in the current deal environment.
