China’s top offshore crude oil and natural gas producer, CNOOC (NYSE: CEO), has announced the launch of full production from phase one development of the Kenli 10-2 oilfield in the south Bohai Sea.

The Kenli 10-2 oilfield cluster holds the distinction of being China’s largest offshore shallow-layer lithological oilfield and is set to be developed across multiple phases.

Phase one of the project has now reached full production capacity, yielding more than 20,500 barrels per day of crude oil.

The phase one development infrastructure includes a new central processing platform, two unmanned wellhead platforms, and 79 additional components supporting the operation.

The oilfield cluster’s location in the south Bohai Sea places it within one of China’s most strategically significant offshore energy production zones.

CNOOC’s announcement signals a major milestone in the phased development strategy the company has outlined for the Kenli 10-2 cluster.

The deployment of unmanned wellhead platforms reflects an increasing reliance on automated offshore infrastructure within China’s energy production sector.

As the country’s leading offshore crude oil and natural gas producer, CNOOC continues to expand domestic output through large-scale offshore development projects.

The phased approach to developing the Kenli 10-2 oilfield suggests further production capacity increases are planned as subsequent phases move toward completion.

The full production milestone at phase one marks a significant addition to China’s offshore oil supply, with the broader cluster expected to grow in output over time.
