A product line once considered a niche offering has become Silicon Motion Technology Corporation’s (NasdaqGS: SIMO) most explosive growth engine, with Ferri and Boot Drive solutions sales surging between 2,580% and 2,585% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2026.
That extraordinary jump in the automotive and edge AI-focused segment helped propel total quarterly revenue to $560.2 million, more than double the $242.0 million recorded in the same period a year ago.
Sequential momentum was equally striking, with the top line climbing 24% from $451.0 million in the second quarter, as demand across multiple product categories accelerated into the back half of the year.
Gross profit nearly tripled on an annual basis to $300.4 million, and GAAP gross margin expanded to 53.6%, up from 50.2% the prior quarter and 48.6% in the third quarter of 2025.
GAAP operating income reached $162.6 million for the quarter, compared with $101.1 million sequentially and just $29.2 million in the year-earlier period, reflecting the company’s growing operating leverage.
Wallace Kou, President and CEO, framed the results as part of a fundamental transformation of the business, saying: “Silicon Motion is rapidly evolving from a consumer-focused NAND flash controller supplier into a diversified leader in controllers and storage solutions, serving markets from AI infrastructure to the edge.”
SSD controllers, another key segment, posted sequential volume gains of 20% to 25% and year-over-year growth of 55% to 60%, aided in part by early commercial traction from the company’s new MonTitan AI-focused controller lineup.
eMMC and UFS controller sales were the lone soft spot, declining 10% to 15% sequentially, though that segment still delivered annual growth of 35% to 40%, underscoring the breadth of demand across Silicon Motion’s portfolio.
Non-GAAP earnings per diluted American depositary share came in at $4.35, up sharply from $2.43 in the prior quarter, while GAAP EPS of $1.91 reflected the sequential decline in GAAP net income from $136.1 million to $65.3 million due to accounting items.
The company’s cash position was dramatically reshaped during the quarter after convertible note proceeds of $1,125.9 million were added, pushing cash, equivalents, and restricted cash to $953.6 million from just $181.8 million at the end of June.
Nine-month revenue of $1,353.3 million is running at more than twice the $607.2 million pace of the comparable 2025 period, with year-to-date GAAP net income of $268.2 million versus $74.9 million previously.
Silicon Motion raised its annual dividend by 15% to $2.30 per ADS, payable in quarterly installments of $0.575, a move that signals confidence in the sustainability of its improved earnings profile.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, management guided for revenue between $588 million and $616 million, which would represent continued sequential growth if achieved at the midpoint of that range.
