QuantumScape Corp. (NYSE: QS) shares jumped more than 8% overnight after the solid-state battery maker revealed plans for a 100-megawatt-hour production line and reported a significantly narrower third-quarter loss.
The company’s Eagle Line pilot facility in San Jose, California, is now operational and producing growing quantities of QSE-5 battery cells for customers, according to a letter to shareholders from CEO Siva Sivaram.
QuantumScape has partnered with German automation firm Muehlbauer Group on manufacturing equipment, with commercial production from the new line expected to begin in 2028.
Josef Markus Mühlbauer, CEO of Muehlbauer Group, said, “The Eagle Line proved to us that QuantumScape’s solid-state technology is ready to scale to the next level.”
The proposed 100-megawatt-hour line targets markets well beyond electric vehicles, including AI data centers, aerospace, defense and telecommunications sectors.
QuantumScape’s Data Center business is developing a product called the QS PowerBlock, designed specifically for energy storage inside advanced AI data centers.
Its QuantumScape Advanced Solutions division is already generating customer billings from shipments of QSE-5 sample cells into defense, aviation and telecommunications applications.
On the financial side, QuantumScape’s net loss narrowed to $84.4 million in Q3 2026, down sharply from a loss of $105.8 million in the same period a year earlier.
Operating expenses fell to $92.4 million from $115 million last year, with research and development costs dropping to $73.9 million from $92.1 million, and general and administrative expenses declining to $18.5 million from $22.9 million.
The company’s adjusted EBITDA loss for the quarter came in at $60.7 million, in line with expectations, and QuantumScape maintained its full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA loss forecast of $250 million to $275 million.
QuantumScape closed the quarter with $819.8 million in liquidity, giving the company a substantial financial cushion to fund its development and commercialization efforts.
Retail sentiment on Stocktwits remained in bullish territory, with message volume around the stock surging 234% over the prior 24 hours, reflecting heightened interest from individual investors.
One Stocktwits user wrote, “This company is going to overachieve on its goals! The market is huge, and it can dominate with its technology,” while another added, “Looking forward to the future. Solid state is THE way forward.”
Despite the overnight pop, QS stock remains down more than 14% for the month and has shed roughly 61% of its value since the start of the year, underscoring the long road still ahead for the company.
