Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ: SMCI) has appointed Mark Long as senior vice president and chief financial officer, ending a search that stretched more than 22 months.
Long reports directly to founder, president, and Chief Executive Officer Charles Liang, with the appointment effective immediately.
The AI server maker was advised by an independent special committee in 2024 to hire a new finance chief after “lapses” in certain processes were identified within the company.
Long most recently served as CFO and chief strategy officer at Western Digital, where he led financial management, investor relations, and corporate strategy across the business.
He also co-founded Prime Impact Capital, a technology-focused investment firm, and previously held senior roles at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and UCI International Holdings.
Long holds a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan, bringing both legal and financial training to the position.
Liang expressed confidence in the appointment, stating: “I’m confident Mark will have an immediate positive impact in strengthening and accelerating our operational and financial execution as we continue to scale our business to capture the next wave of AI and IT infrastructure growth.”
Under the terms of his employment offer letter, Long will receive an annual base salary of $725,000 and a sign-on bonus of $500,000, subject to prorated repayment if he departs within two years.
Long succeeds David Weigand, who will assist with the transition and shift his focus toward helping optimize and accelerate the business going forward.
Separately, Sierra Space Corp. confirmed that CFO Jeff Schrader has departed the spacecraft maker after approximately six months in the role, raising questions about the timing of its long-awaited initial public offering.
A company representative stated that Schrader has decided to pursue a new professional opportunity, adding that Sierra Space has no further information to share regarding future financing plans.
Schrader had been named CFO on June 30, 2026, having joined Sierra Space earlier that year as chief strategy officer before being elevated to lead financial strategy and capital planning.
Prior to Sierra Space, Schrader served as vice president of strategy and business development at Lockheed Martin Space, overseeing a multinational team supporting a business area exceeding $13 billion.
Schrader began his career as a U.S. Air Force financial analyst, eventually rising to CFO for special programs and later the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office.
