Reports indicate that President Donald Trump is taking active steps to protect his youngest son, Barron Trump, amid mounting political threats.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Democrats are allegedly planning to open a series of investigations into the Trump family if they regain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.
A Democratic insider told The Daily Mail, “Leave no stone unturned,” adding, “No sacred cows for the most corrupt family in American history.”
Other insiders told The Daily Mail that while Trump is “angry,” he is “not surprised” by the prospect of investigations targeting his family.
Trump and his inner circle are said to be preparing the entire Trump family for intense congressional scrutiny, with his legal team already working “behind the scenes to stage a robust defense.”
Trump’s MAGA Inc Super PAC has accumulated more than $400 million, and a substantial portion has reportedly been set aside to fund legal defenses if Democrats reclaim power.
The threat of investigations follows a New York Post report that, during his time in office, former President Joe Biden allowed the FBI to track Barron and Melania Trump as part of an operation codenamed “Plasmic Echo.”
That operation centered on whether Trump retained classified materials at his Mar-a-Lago estate after his first presidential term, with the FBI search ultimately conducted on August 8, 2022.
White House documents made public on October 5 indicated that the FBI sought to “finalize FBI understanding of FPOTUS/FLOTUS/minor son’s travel (type of aircraft and specific timeline)” ahead of the Mar-a-Lago search.
The same documents revealed that, in 2023, months after the Mar-a-Lago search, the FBI tracked Chief of Staff Susie Wiles’ cellphone, looking for calls with Trump’s legal team.
In a statement, the White House said, “Already in the crosshairs for spying on Congress, ex-prosecutor Jack Smith and his team monitored the activities of President Donald Trump’s legal defense team, journalists and campaign advisers using a pen register device that tracked the calls coming to and from his chief of staff Susie Wiles’ phone, according to newly declassified memos that reveal some of the FBI’s invasive tactics used to target Trump.”
The White House statement continued, “The latest memos, released by the White House Government Transparency Task Force show FBI agents assigned to Smith’s team in a probe codenamed Plasmic Echo used a dragnet of data gathering tactics in the midst of the 2024 election to monitor phone calls, social media, political endorsements and other constitutionally protected activities.”
The statement concluded that the three-year probe “was approved at the highest levels of the Biden Justice Department, including by Attorney General Merrick Garland, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco and FBI Director Christopher Wray, the memos show.”
