GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) shares rose nearly 2% in after-hours trading on Tuesday after CEO Ryan Cohen made another significant personal investment in the company’s stock.
According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cohen purchased 700,000 shares at $24.41 per share, bringing the total value of the transaction to approximately $17.08 million.
The latest purchase marks the fourth time Cohen has bought GME stock since September 10, underscoring a sustained and deliberate pattern of insider accumulation.
Following the transaction, Cohen directly owns nearly 41.7 million shares of GameStop, with his overall ownership representing roughly 8.8% of the company when factoring in shares purchasable via corporate warrants.
Just one week prior, on September 26, Cohen acquired 450,000 shares at $23.48 per share, a transaction valued at approximately $10.6 million.
On September 21, he purchased 1.15 million shares across multiple transactions priced between $22.76 and $23.02, totaling roughly $26.4 million.
His buying activity earlier in the fall began on September 10, when he acquired one million shares at an average price of $20.38 per share, totaling $20.4 million, with an additional one million shares picked up in January at around $21.36 per share.
In aggregate, Cohen’s 2026 buy-ins have expanded his direct position to close to 4.3 million shares, with regulatory filings indicating he has made no stock sales throughout this period.
The insider buying comes alongside a broader trend of director-level accumulation, with GameStop director Turner Nat purchasing 10,462 shares at $24.33 each, putting the value of that transaction at roughly $254,600.
Director Lawrence Cheng also bought 55,000 shares worth nearly $1.03 million last month, following the company’s stronger-than-expected fiscal second-quarter results.
GameStop’s Q2 2026 earnings report showed net sales fell 19% year-over-year to $790.2 million, impacted by lower hardware and software demand, while net income jumped 77% to $298.7 million.
Profitability was driven by aggressive overhead reduction, rapid growth in its high-margin collectibles and trading cards segment, and substantial non-operating investment gains from its approximately 43.4 million-share position in eBay.
Retail sentiment on Stocktwits for GME was described as “neutral” with “high” message volumes following the after-hours move, reflecting cautious but active engagement from the retail investor base.
GME stock has gained approximately 17.4% year-to-date, with Cohen’s continued open-market purchases widely interpreted as a strong signal of confidence in the company’s ongoing strategic direction.
