Novo Nordisk (NYSE: NVO) has moved to reassure Canadian patients and healthcare providers by confirming a stable, established supply of Ozempic® nationwide.
The announcement comes as demand for semaglutide continues to rise across Canada, while the availability of generic alternatives remains limited.
Ozempic® received Health Canada approval in 2018, and the drug has since grown to serve more than one million Canadians currently using semaglutide.
Iain Graham, General Manager at Novo Nordisk Canada, emphasized the company’s commitment to ensuring continuous access to its flagship diabetes medication.
“Our company remains dedicated to supporting the ongoing health and well-being of Canadians who rely on our medicines,” Graham said.
“Patients have options, and when they choose Ozempic®, we are ready to meet their needs,” he added, reaffirming the company’s focus on supply reliability.
Graham further stated the company is “committed to our patients, healthcare providers and our healthcare system, and prioritizing a stable and continuous supply of high-quality medications, including semaglutide, to support Canadians.”
Ozempic® is approved for the once-weekly treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes to help improve glycemic control, and can be used alongside several other medications.
The drug also carries approvals to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, including cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, and nonfatal stroke, in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease.
Ozempic® is additionally indicated to reduce the risk of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease, and cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease.
To help manage costs, eligible Canadians with private drug coverage, or those paying out-of-pocket, can access savings through the Ozempic® Savings Card at pharmacies across Canada, excluding Quebec.
Savings are also applied automatically through Novo Nordisk Care® Rx, operated by Rexall and select online telehealth and retail partners across the country.
