Rocket Lab Corporation (NASDAQ: RKLB) and Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL) are both capitalizing on surging demand for satellite infrastructure, space-based services and Earth-observation applications.

As governments and commercial organizations deepen their reliance on space technologies, both companies are expanding their capabilities across spacecraft systems, satellite platforms and data-driven services.

The broader space industry is being shaped by rapid growth in satellite communications, remote sensing and Earth observation, creating meaningful opportunities for companies supplying the hardware, infrastructure and analytics behind these applications.

Rocket Lab and Planet Labs occupy different but complementary positions within this expanding ecosystem, making a direct comparison of their investment fundamentals both timely and instructive.

Rocket Lab’s business spans launch vehicles, spacecraft platforms, solar power systems, radios, optical systems, software and other components, supporting missions from launch through on-orbit operations for commercial and government customers.

A significant contract win came on Aug. 17, 2026, when Viasat selected Rocket Lab to build a GEO satellite bus for the Protected Tactical SATCOM-Global program, with Rocket Lab supplying its Lightning-GEO spacecraft platform to host Viasat’s payload.

On Aug. 10, 2026, Planet Labs and the Government of Rwanda announced the launch of a national satellite data program, delivering Planet’s data to government agencies, public universities, selected startups and development partners for uses including agriculture, forest monitoring, urban planning and disaster management.

From an earnings estimate perspective, the Zacks Consensus Estimate for Rocket Lab’s 2026 earnings per share has risen 58.33% over the past 60 days, while Planet Labs’ fiscal 2027 EPS estimate has remained unchanged across the same period.
