Mary Comans, a former Federal Emergency Management Agency chief financial officer, claims in new court filings that false information about her termination was deliberately fed to conservative social media influencer Laura Loomer.
Lawyers representing Comans are asking a federal judge to formally declare that former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and aide Corey Lewandowski were the sources behind a damaging Loomer social media post.
The post in question alleged that Comans had been fired for “illegally funding” migrant housing, a characterization that Comans and her legal team strongly dispute.
Comans was dismissed from her position in February 2025 after she processed $59 million in approved payments to New York City designated for housing undocumented migrants.
Her attorneys maintain that Comans acted entirely within the bounds of her authority, processing payments that had already received official approval before she authorized them.
A separate federal judge, Justice Michael Nachmanoff of Virginia, ruled on July 17 that Comans’ firing violated federal law protecting civil servants from politically motivated terminations.
Following that ruling, Nachmanoff ordered a “name-clearing hearing,” a legal mechanism designed to restore the professional reputation of a wrongfully dismissed government employee.
Comans alleges in her court filings that the Department of Homeland Security made a series of damaging public statements at the time of her firing, going beyond standard government communications.
She further claims that DHS deliberately leaked information to Loomer and other social media influencers, framing her dismissal as the result of illegal or even criminal conduct on her part.
Comans is now seeking financial damages from the Trump administration, with her legal team arguing the coordinated campaign to discredit her caused significant and lasting professional harm.
The case has drawn wider attention as an example of the intersection between federal personnel disputes and the growing influence of right-wing social media figures in shaping public narratives around government decisions.
The effort to identify Noem and Lewandowski as the sources of the leaked information represents an escalation in the legal battle, one that could implicate senior administration officials directly in the reputational attack on Comans.
