IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), the world’s leading quantum platform company, has received final regulatory approval to complete its acquisition of SkyWater Technology (NASDAQ: SKYT), the largest exclusively U.S.-based semiconductor foundry.
The transaction, first announced in January 2026, is expected to allow IonQ to materially accelerate its quantum computing roadmap while securing a fully scalable domestic supply chain.
The deal creates what the companies describe as the only vertically integrated full-stack quantum platform company in the world.
IonQ’s chip-focused manufacturing approach will benefit directly from SkyWater’s foundry capabilities, enabling the development of new generations of quantum computers.
SkyWater will continue operating as a wholly owned subsidiary under its existing name following the close of the transaction, continuing to serve a full range of semiconductor customers.
Together, IonQ and SkyWater intend to serve the full quantum ecosystem by combining IonQ’s proprietary technology with SkyWater’s differentiated development services.
The companies anticipate closing the transaction on Friday, July 31, 2026, having satisfied all required regulatory approvals and other outstanding closing conditions.
The combined company is scheduled to hold its second quarter earnings call on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after the U.S. market closes.
An investor day has also been confirmed for the third quarter of 2026, set for September 8, giving stakeholders a closer look at the integrated business strategy.
IonQ’s customer and partner roster includes Amazon Web Services, AstraZeneca, and NVIDIA, with earlier systems delivering a 20x performance increase over previous quantum solutions.
In 2025, IonQ achieved 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity, setting a world record in quantum computing performance that underscores the company’s technical leadership.
SkyWater operates state-of-the-art facilities in Minnesota, Florida, and Texas, and holds DMEA-accredited Category 1A Trusted Foundry status, making it a critical partner for both commercial and federal defense programs.
