BigBear.ai (NYSE: BBAI), a specialized defense and security technology company, has announced that its Pangiam Threat Detection platform has received Dutch national approval for aviation security screening.

The approval was granted by the Netherlands’ National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security following rigorous testing conducted by TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research.

TNO is an internationally recognized applied research institute and aviation security test center headquartered in The Hague, lending significant weight to the certification outcome.

The approval confirms that Pangiam Threat Detection met Automated Prohibited Items Detection System Standard 1 criteria alongside Dutch national additional detection requirements for aviation security screening.

The system was evaluated in a configuration with SureScan Corporation’s DETECT 1000 CT screening system, marking the first milestone in a broader series of tests planned with various certification bodies and OEM partners.

Pangiam Threat Detection is BigBear.ai’s AI-enabled screening platform designed for aviation security operations, analyzing 3D CT scans of cabin baggage in near real time to flag potential prohibited items.

The platform is built to meet operator demands through rapid decision resolution, system resilience, and threat item and threat pattern analytics, with smart device-hosted interfaces supporting remote security management and incident escalation.

Kevin McAleenan, CEO of BigBear.ai, emphasized the importance of the certification in the context of regulated security environments, stating: “For aviation security operators, trust is critical when introducing automation in regulated, high-consequence environments.”

McAleenan added: “This approval is an important validation of Pangiam Threat Detection and of our focus on delivering mission-ready AI that supports officers and supervisors as screening operations become more automated and operationally demanding.”

The milestone builds on the company’s broader work integrating Pangiam Threat Detection with modern CT screening infrastructure and airport security workflows across regulated aviation environments.

The certification also reinforces BigBear.ai’s Trade and Travel Solutions portfolio as the company pushes to expand trusted AI-enabled screening capabilities into more transportation security contexts globally.

BigBear.ai, headquartered in McLean, Virginia, develops and deploys mission-ready AI solutions for customers operating in complex, distributed, mission-based environments across defense and security sectors.
