Statkraft has announced plans to construct the Blåfjell Pump, a new facility designed to channel additional water into Blåsjø, Norway’s largest hydropower reservoir.

The project will increase electricity production across the Ulla-Førre power plants by 54 GWh, representing a meaningful addition to the country’s renewable energy supply.

The initiative highlights Norway’s broader approach to energy transition, leveraging existing hydropower infrastructure rather than building entirely new systems from the ground up.

By working within established reservoirs and power plant networks, the project aims to balance seasonal water variations while minimizing environmental disruption to surrounding areas.

Construction is set to begin immediately, with the project expected to reach completion by 2028, involving both local and regional contractors throughout the build.

The Blåfjell Pump aligns with Statkraft’s stated strategy to invest significantly in Norwegian hydropower capacity over the coming decade, signaling a substantial industrial commitment to the region.
