Inherently overestimated COVID-19 fatality rates have created mass fear and panic, manufacturing consent for extreme and harmful authoritarian policies.
Widely reported fatality rates for COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic virus, are inherently overestimated, and the rates as well as models incorporating them have caused mass fear and panic, which has manufactured consent for extreme authoritarian policies that may easily be doing far more harm than good.
In this video, I explain what the reported fatality rates actually mean and show that accumulating evidence indicates that reported fatality rates are overestimated by orders of magnitude. This is part three of a series.
Hi Jeremy,
Herd immunity, Take the hit now or possibly take the hit latter, lower the curve now and then try and control the spread at levels the health care system can accommodate or let it do it’s worst.
We do not have all the data on this subject and it raises so many questions.
My perspective here in NZ is I agree with the governments actions if nothing else it has allowed the scientific community time to gather information and will assist in the overall knowledge of this pandemic.
Is the pandemic as deadly as it appears at face value I suspect not but until we truly know it’s full extent we have to wait and see.
Great and very interesting video. The economic change could be a good thing and might mean nation’s have a lower desire to spend money on weapons and military conquest on the flip side could nation’s use this time to further drive their agendas unfortunately it s possible.
The care and stay safe.

Nobody disagrees about the need to flatten the curve. The question is how best to achieve this without doing more harm than good, and I think it it obvious at this point that the extreme authoritarian measures governments have taken without thought of the consequences are doing more harm than good.
Hi Jeremy, here in NZ we are moving out slowly from L3. We did L4 and it certainly did cause financial hardship and it most certainly have us time to slow the infection rate and reduce the mortality rate. We lost 19 people and have a small new case number currently. The question is what could have happened if we did nothing and is the cost of locking down worth the possible lives saved. What is a human life worth and if it was your life or my life sitting on a resperator in some infectious disease ICU ward would we think differently. Would the coffee shop being opened where we contracted the disease really seem like a civil liberty that was not worth forgoing for a few weeks. I completely agree we need to look at the situation and consider all the possibilities both now and retrospectively but I prefer to listen to the scientists and go with their advice because the average politician from historical evidence can not be trusted to really have our well being at heart.
It was not a choice between doing “nothing” and shutting down the economy. I also suppose defenders of the extreme policy responses might think differently about it if it was them being driven into financial ruin. And, of course, economic collapse will take its own toll in health and lives. Finally, you say you “prefer to listen to the scientists”, but this is a puzzling statement since everything I present in the video is coming from scientists.
muy interesante articulo amigo, espero que sigas publicando mas informacion asi, en estos momentos mientra estemos mas informados de los detalles de la enfermedad mejor
Financial support is something which should be happening, the thing is help the people financially first.
As for the science question there is more than a single idea on which approach is the best, watching Sweden who went down a vastly different route than many they look to be doing worse than nations next to them. Questions on all aspects of this pandemic and responses are necessary including the fallout and what it means to us all. Keep up the great work.
En mi opinion, la enfermedad es un riesgo para el sistema de salud, si, pero la mayoria de los gobiernos lo ha usado para beneficiarse
It’s Redfield not Redford.
the fatality rates are found to be over stated by 94% according to CDC.
