ADDIS ABABA — Addressing Eritrean professionals, intellectuals and political leaders in Addis Ababa on Friday, Prime Minister Meles reiterated that Eritrea posed a serious threat to the security of Ethiopia and to countries of the Horn Region. The Eritrean government was caught red-handed while plotting, executing, and overseeing subversive and terrorist acts on Ethiopia and its neighbors, Prime Minister Meles underlined. He was referring to Isaias’s reported plan to cause chaos and bloodshed in Addis Ababa in March when the African Union was holding a conference of heads of state in the Ethiopian capital.
He said tougher new UN sanctions will be slapped on the Eritrean regime as soon as the Security Council agrees on measures affecting foreign companies operating in the country.
In a bid to stave off measures that would stop President Isaias Afeworki from laying his hands on revenues from the country’s gold mines and from illicit money paid by nationals abroad, he is frantically seeking understanding from African leaders. His sudden diplomatic offensive is clearly too little too late. Immediately after his return home from a state visit to Uganda last month, President Musoveni issued a statement through his ambassador in Addis Ababa urging more stringent UN measures on Asmara. Unable to refute overwhelming UN and East Africa’s IGAD (Inter-governmental Authority for Development) charges against Eritrea, it is unlikely Isaias’s meeting in Bamaco over the weekend with Equatorial Guinea President Mbasogo, current AU Chairman, will change any African minds.
The Eritrean leader should grab the bull with the horn and face the forces that hold the key to the country’s future as well as his own, namely, the Eritrean people at home and the broad-based, energized democratic opposition front which is banned from operating inside the country. An increasing number of young conscripts and students fleeing the country are joining the front in the fight for a new Eritrea.
At the same time, the sanctions and international diplomatic pressures are having their toll on Isaias and his close advisors and cabinet ministers. According to reliable sources in Asmara, some of his ministers and loyal aides are openly expressing frustrations in fear that the country may be heading for the gutters.
The same sources describe a political atmosphere developing in Asmara in a manner somewhat similar to the one experienced at the end of2000 when the Isaias armed forces lost the war with Ethiopia and were pushed out of the border village of Badme which became an annoying symbol of personal failure for him. Consequently, in late 2001, Isaias staged a palace coup in which he put in jail almost all members of his cabinet including his de facto Vice President for questioning his leadership capabilities and for calling an end to his dictatorial methods.
How the current crisis will play out is yet to be seen. What is clear is that Isaias is fighting for his life and political survival. With an impoverished and enslaved population of 5 million, with over 300,000 disenchanted armed youths indefinitely serving in a hated national service, with a dysfunctional economy and estranged intelligentsia, Isaias fears Eritrea could be hit by a Tunisia or Libya type of revolution at any moment. Indeed the Eritrean government has become so hysterical that it has accused the Nobel Peace Prize winning human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, of inciting a people’s rebellion in the country – a charge vehemently denied by Amnesty.
By and large, the internal quandaries as well as the UN sanctions on Eritrea are of Isaias’s making because of his frustrated ambitions to be the undisputed regional leader and his hate and mistrust of the Meles Zenawi led TPLF/EPRDF government in Ethiopia for hampering his grandiose plans. He made the destruction of Zenawi’s rule as the only way if he is to stay in power and develop his country. Isaias tried to convince his people that his arming and funding of Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabab and rubbing elbows with extremists was in Eritrea’s national interest. He reportedly continues to arm and harbor rebels and extremists from Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan, as well as Ethiopia, to try to blackmail the leaders of these countries and get them to bow to his whims and demands.
Now not only the African Union but also the UN and the superpowers identify the Isaias regime as a threat to regional and international peace and security. Isaias stands between a rock and a hard place with no easy answers. One option left is for him to start negotiations with his foe Meles Zenawi without preconditions putting everything on the table including the issue of dusty Badme. Meles told the just concluded conference of 62 Eritrean intellectuals and professionals including more than a dozen PhDs and Medical Doctors that he has no plan to leave Badme unless such a move guarantees peace for the peoples of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Meles thinks the ball is in Isaias’s court. Isaias feels it is in Meles’s court.
Asked by this reporter if Meles ever blames himself for what is wrong in Eritrea since he was once close to Isaias, he said “I did not create Isaias.” However, Meles said he did not believe Isaias would be good for post independent Eritrea given his record as liberation front leader in which he favored violent means to resolve conflicts and his lack of concern for human life.
A fair and balanced analysis by Michael Abraha. Terrorist Issayas Afeworki of Eritrea, just like his mentor terrorist Usama Bin Laden, has created different instruments to destabilize and control Africa and world leaders. In Somalia, through the direct financial and operational support of Alqaida, he has created and manages AlShabab. In Ethiopia, he has created and manages Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), Sidama Liberation Movement, Gimbot 7 (G7), Tigrai People Democratic Movement (TPDM), and others. Moreover, even though he has not created it, he currently manages the operation of Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF).
In Europe, Australia, and the USA he has created new, or controlled through hostile take overs, almost all Ethiopian and Somalian civic, professional, and community organizations. Most of this organizations are his store fronts to raise money from innocent Ethiopians and Somalis. His latest projects are the take over of Ethiopian Orthodox Churches in Europe, Australia, and US and is succeeding.
In the social front, most of the Ethiopian Festivals and musical concerts are directly controlled by his cronies to raise fund for his terror efforts.
Oh now you made The highly influential President of The State of Eritrea a terrorist? Worst arrogance!!! I know he is the president of the state in the horn of Africa, a self-reliant state.
TO MICHAEL ABRAHA: WE ERITREAN KNOW VERY WELL YOU ARE THE NO 1 ENEMY OF ERITREAN PPL. DO NOT BLEME DEAR PR. ISAYAS AFEWORKI FOR YOUR BAD AJENDA.DO YOU THINK CAN YOU CHEAT THE PPL OF ERITREA BY SAYING BLA BLA BLA.IF YOU ARE A JOURNALIST OR YOUR BLA BLA IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM BUT YOU WORK FOR WEYANE AND TO GET ATTENTION FORM THE PPL. BUT WE ERITREAN KNOW VERY WELL WHO YOU ARE AND FOR WHOM YOU WORK. HA HA KIKI KIKI KIIII. GOD BLESS DEAR PR. ISAYAS AFEWORKI AND PPL OF ERITREA FOREVER. DEATH FOR OUR ENEMY LIKE MELES AND M A.
Hi there,
It shows to me how hell bent you’re in trying to topple the government of Eritrea and kneel down its people. I respect your being on the opposite side with respect to the policies, but you lost big time as a journalist and reporter when you state the following:
“….Isaias tried to convince his people that his arming and funding of Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabab and rubbing elbows with extremists was in Eritrea’s national interest…..”
Where & when did the President say this? As to believing the words of the PM of Ethiopia, who unashamedly deported innocent Eritreans because he didn’t like the color of their eyes (for the record, I am one of them too), and begging him to promote your agenda reminds me of the saying “birds of the same feather flock together”.
Your wishes & dreams for the demise of the Eritrean nation will never come true…..Eritreans will be united, no matter of their differences, when especially some of her selfish children & the Weyanes are in bed together.
As a reminder, it would have been better to promote yourself as an activist instead of a journalist.
God save Eritrea from her selfish children.
hey…Dear Author…I appreciate your pure determination for the sake of your ppl…always peace with you!!
@Afar….may be you are one of the wings of Isias …
may be you r busy slaughtering your own people…
that’s the only reason you can criticize someone for revealing the very true story of your own people…Little knowledge is always dangerous…update ur self…keep looking what is happening to ur people….
I am pretty sure if the Eretrean people organized on a well manner ….
Some times I feel happy when I see the so called Free Journalist Micael writing such a Weyanawi drama simply to be parrot od unsubnstiated false claim . Any way , know one can be friendlier with historical enemies for the whole life , you are simply leech. Now , we will never see any good for regime who convict any crime like by a terrorist , who commits atrocity against its own people . Dear Agamawi brother you are like wolf in sheep flock. The agame cunning and bloody eye want to see misery of Eritrean people and This will never happen in thousand years.
Ethiopia has huge internal problems of repression and abuse. Some flip flopping Eritrean “intellectuals” trying to use them for an agenda of no consequence to their people, in fact detrimental, is throwing an insult to rub in their wound. You are a selfish to Eritreans and a selfish to Ethiopians. Time to revise your ill conceived bravado in trying to take Ethiopians for a ride.
Dear Michael Abraha, you are a joke. Your so called
insights have contributed nothing!
In this media/propaganda war, you have clearly chosen the side of Ethiopia. At a time when Ethiopia is actively trying to destroy Eritrea. At a time when Eritrea has made great progress in economics, health, education and is starting to reap the fruits of its natural resources (Gold); and despite all the efforts of her enemies.
Eritrea will not be sanctioned because Ethiopia says so or because Meles says so. In fact, the AU has rejected Ethiopia’s effort at getting them to table the resolution and instead, Ethiopia went straight for the Security Council without African support.
Eritrea forever!
This is article is biased in favour of Meles Zenawi. Meles Zenawi = Issayas Afeworki. There is no difference. Meles is a mass murder as Issayas. Neither Meles nor Issayas are good to anyone. Ethiopian and Eritrean will be free when both thugs, blood thirsty self-elected despots go forever and ever. It is a matter of time, they will go like every one of their predecessors.
Michael, you are biased. you hate Issayas and you love Meles. But both are one coin’s head and tail. You cannot separate one murderer from another. Are you trying to tell us Meles is democrat while Issayas is not? how? Everything Issayas has done Meles did. Issayas put his comrades in a dungeon. Meles dumped them, put them in prison and degraded them and threw them like condom. Do you believe if there was democracy Meles could stay one day? W
This guy is,a joke just typical attention seeker just keep dreaming since dream is free and good for your health.
This author is a joke. lol
Dear the readers,
Mr. Michael Abraha the so-called journalist totally lacks integrity, sense of professionalism and the ability to investigate the reality of the Horn.He is simply the puppet of the TPLF and he will be respossible too for the genocidal act happened to the innocent Ethiopians and Somalians as much as Meles.
His move is only as an attempt to divert the current attention exposed by wikileaks how the meles regime became a terrorist himself by creating instabilty of the Horn.
Today, the Horn of Africans including Sudanese ready to uprising against the TPLF for Stability and Development of the Region.
The difference between Meles and Issasyas is only personality than quality. Both are blood thrist and cruel human beings who made Ethiopia bleed for a half century? If there was no shabia, we would have not become refugees. Thanks to Shabia and TPLF, they made the whole population of Ethiopia including bahri negash refugees.
What was Shabia and TPLF fighting for? to separate Eritrean from their cousins ? to landlock Ethiopia and to keep the whole red sea idle and to be infested by pirates? what did TPLF = shabia bring? what he is knew? Mengistu was far better than tplf and shabia.
Apart from being ignorant , despotic, Mengistu tried tried to liberate everyhone. He wore Kaki for 17 years. His military was composed of all Ethiopians and there was no ethnic problem. Thanks to TPLF = SHABIA they did not only mess Ethiopia, they messed the whole horn Africa and went upto Srilanka? What did they bring? Meles has been on power for 37 years like issayas for 50 years. Issayas is number despot, gaddaffi second, Meles 3rd despot.
Meles has no right to represent Ethiopia. He is a despotic self elected leader like Issayas. He does not even have the moral to condemn Issayas. A
A criminal condemning a criminal does not make sense. Meles killed 200 people and he is walking free? So what makes Meles better than Issayas?
My wish is both TPLF, Shabia disappear and the peoople take power into their hands and forget the border, badme, war, … live together in peace.
My advice to Ethiopian and Eritreans, you are fooling yourself by supporting barbaric despotics. Eritreans will be better off living with their mother land Ethiopia. What are Eritreans and Tigreans getting? nothng, if there was peace, imagine, how Massawa, Asseb busy could have been? Asmara and Massawa could have been overcrowded with the 96 million Ethiopians including Bahri Negashian. Asmara could have been a vibrant city. Mekele could have been a good transit to Asmara and Massawa. The benefit was for everyone. But thanks to TPLF = SHABIA the two evil they are keeping the people in war footing forever. Asmara is like desert, Mekele the same. Massaawa the same. What is the benefit for Eritrean to live isolated ? Anyway down to TPLF = Shabia.
we, ethiopian don’t support sanction on our brothers. The evil regime id the minority TPLF government in ethiopia. we wthiopia will support eritrean government.
viva eritrea
long live ethiopia.
Dear Michael,
If you have been clean so far, do not taint your hands with blood by involving with blood dirty TPLF = shabia. Do not get surprised both have supporters. But apply your brain, how many Ethiopians including Bahri Negashians have perished because of TPLF = shabia? you do not have to kill freedom to give freedom? How the hell can in the first place a killer give freedom? The fact that they were fighting and killing people was not give freedom but to take power and freedom. This is what exactly shabia = TPLF did. Imagine, if there was no war, where Ethiopia could have been today? How many innocent souls of Ethiopains perished? how resources, time wasted because of tplf = shabia? What did they bring? Alshabab? more war? landllocking Ethiopia? keeoping the massawa and Asseb idle? what benefit does this has to Eritrean?
Let us work for a better Ethiopia and forget the countries and flags created by Meles and Issaays. While the world is becoming one, they are dividing us and keeping killing each other only for their own selfish, greedy ego.
Imagine, Massawa teeming with Ethiopians tourists? Imagine Eritreans working and doing business all over Ethiopia? which is good? isolated in the mountains? and escaping and drowning in the sea ? What is Eritrea for if people can live in it with peace? what is Ethiopia if people cannot live in peace in it? And people ae interconnected and even if Issasyas and Meles enjoy separating peopel, it is natural that the people cannot live isolated from each other. This is natural and neither Meles nor Issayas can stop it. It is true they can mislead people for sometime. But it will come to an end at some stage. Greed, greed, greed, greed is like an ocean that can drown people.
Despite some leadership failures Eritreans are known for resilience and persistence in the issues they think is just and worth fighting for. What I see right now is none of that. Although Ethiopia occupies Eritrean territories without any justification a group of so called professionals are opting for coming to power through short cut.
They are putting their eggs on woyane to bring them to power. They think Meles is a friend of Eritrea. Haven’t they read Wikileaks? Meles’s Agenda is polish his bad image in Eritrea and get Eritreans to their knees to fulfill the great Tigray prophecy. Well, 1960’s there were Eritreans who helped the Ethiopian Emperor for money and power. What we see right now is history repeating itself. The difference is there is no way the current TPLF grand plan will succeed. Because those who are accepting woyane mission are 62/50000000. I hate Isaias but I will never ever sell my country.
no one can stop me paying 2% to eritrean i love my people and my sext eritrea fuck you TPLF
EVEN IF ERITREA WANT MORE THAN 10% OF MY SALARY I AM WILLING TO GIVE ANYTHING WHAT U GONNE DO WEYANE BEGGERS LOVE ERITREA ALLWAYS
I’d say some of this is true,as an Irish who visited both Ethiopia and Eritrea back in 1996,I don’t see any difference between the two regimes. But 90% written here is pure propaganda. Relax you two.
Oh there is big difference between these two countries you think are 90% the same. Want to know about them please do have an interest to know about them, then you can say something. It is not fair and will never be to hear that Eritrea and Ethiopia are simillar in anyway.
If you Eritreans really really do not like Meles? Are you going to love a militant, ulta patriotic amhara in the future? I worry for you. The true Ethiopians are amhara. They will never baby sit you like Meles. They will not negoitiate with you. You will in your life time. My wish and dream is for the amhara to come out to save Ethiopians from TPLF and shabia. Then shabia will be history.
Babysit Eritrea? Who? TPLF? hahahahahahah
Very funny to hear that from someone who named himself Ethiopian for doesn’t know anything about his homeland history!
First thing there is a saying in politics that between states the only thing common is the interest not the mutual friendship.
If you really are Ethiopian, if Amharic, I believe you would never say shaibia literally! Unless you are from the TPLF acting as Amhara or someone from some other ethnic groups in Ethiopia.
So what is good for the Ethiopian people is good for the neighbours it had for centuries. But in the history I know the TPLF had never babysit Eritrea in anyway but the Eritreans did babysit the TPLF in the world wide known history of the 30 years of struggle.
The history of Eritrea is a history of struggle and Resistance. Especially when it comes to the Ethiopian wicked agenda against Eritrea such history is written in bold letters. Our brothers and sisters fought the Ethiopian Army even if it is with hungry stomach, no shoes or sharing long pants to have two very short pants out of it. It is true that it has been a little hard in the economic situation of the country and the leadership did not deliver especially in political issues. However such failure can not be for Eritreans a reason to sell their country. What I see in Assena, Awate and Asmarino is beyond belief. Working for a despot who deported 70, 000 hardworking Eritreans, confiscated their property with out the due process of law and refused to accept a legal decision is treason. I personally know some of the so colled professionals. Some of them were bandits in Addis. They use to rob people for a living. When they came to Eritrea 1991 Eritrea gave them second chance. They were educated and fed for free. Now they are back to Addis to do what they used to do. Use any means to get to power. No matter how much grievance we have about the political system in Eritrea working with TPLF to dismantle the state of Eritrea is a mistake of great proportion. Eritrea is different from Isaias. Thus Isaias’s bad behavior can not justify any treason.
a sinking man pleading for help from a fellow sinking man! Ethiopian government is teetering on the verge of collapse. It is arresting fellow Ethiopians “intellectuals” “leaders” artists” “business people”…on terrorism charges. Scrambling to hide IMF report forecasting a collapsing economy, Ogadines fighting back with all they have, Oromos determined to stop the whole sale of their land and being ethnically cleansed, amharas sick to death of impoverished existence of second class citizenship with the only hope of selling their babies to western adoption rackets into abuse and humiliation. Woyane trying to prosper by agricultural export of bulky nature that requires access to sea (imagine all of ethiopia’s aid food, coffee export, agricultural export, machinery, armaments…entering and exiting through tiny Djibouti). I have one thing for the likes of Michael Abraha: leba siset kotro aysetm; leba sikebel kotro aykebelm. You’re just a thieving conniving BS’er who wants to ride on the back of the angry masses of Ethiopia by praising and boot licking a genocidal minority ethnic thugs of TPLF.
You mean the Ethiopian government is arresting criminals and terrorists!! I say Barvo to that — Brabo Ethiopian Government!! Need a lot more arrests like that!!
Alem Hawey I completely agree with!! I don’t think our president care about Eritrean any more. He is all into maintaining power. Those so called opposition are blind, how could you truest meles again after what he has done to our sister and brothers.
“Amnesty said Wednesday that a delegation of foreign members was told by Ethiopian officials on August 27 to leave the country, after it held separate meetings with the opposition leaders.
The government arrested the two leaders, Bekele Gerba and Olbana Lelisa, the same day. Gerba was charged with involvement in a banned rebel group, the Oromo Liberation Front. The charges against Lelisa remain unclear.”
“The desperate apartheid junta in Ethiopia today has arrested Ato Andualem Aragie, a senior official of Union for Democracy and Justice (UDJ), and Ato Eskinder Nega, a prominent journalist”
“Woyanne-controlled ETV reported that prominent Ethiopian artiste Debebe Eshetu has been arrested today and charged with terrorism.”
“Yesterday, Meles Zenawi’s injustice minister announced that it is filing terrorism charges against two Swedish journalists, Ethiopian Review editor, Awramba Times deputy editor, and others. The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalist described the accusations as ridiculous.”
“Pastor Daniel Gebraselassie, head of Prison Fellowship Ministry in Ethiopia informs U.S. Embassy officials in Addis Ababa that the Meles dictatorship has been perpetrating severe tortures against detainees. The information comes from the recently leaked secret U.S. diplomatic cables that are now available on Wikileaks. The following is an excerpt of what Paster Daniel told U.S. Ambassador Donald Yamamoto:
Through meetings with these prisoners while detained and following their release, Pastor Dan learned that they were subjected to severe torture while in prison. (NOTE: Prisoners refuse to meet with Ambassador Kassa, saying that the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission is not independent of the GoE. END NOTE) Pastor Dan told Embassy officers that prison officials used Derg-era techniques ) e.g. hanging prisoners from the ceiling in arm shackles, beating the soles of their feet and hanging boards from their testicles ) to try to extract confessions. One of the prisoners reportedly died from injuries sustained while in prison, though prison officials maintain that he is “sick in the hospital.” Another of the former prisoners reported that when he was arrested, police dragged him out of his place of work and was pistol-whipped by plain clothes security forces on the way to the detention facility. The released detainees told Pastor Dan that others detained after them on similar suspicions are still held in Maikelawi. In follow-up meetings with prison officials, Pastor Dan was told that such reports are incorrect and that the prisoners were never tortured. However, in a meeting with the Federal Police Commissioner, he was told that some low-level interrogation officers lack the proper training and can sometimes use unsanctioned methods. Pastor Dan told the group of Embassy officers that “officials at the PM cabinet level” do not condone torture either, and that in the past seven years nearly 200 prison employees had been fired for improper behavior.”
Those Eritreans are who seem are fooled by meles’s are those who have personal grudge with EPLF. Either their family property was not returned by EPLF, were refused passport while they were some where in the Middle East or did not get promotion when they worked for Isaias. The objectives of such personal grudge is revenge against the current government officials. But how do you get there? In order to get there you need to work for those who have the power to fulfill your objective. Such objective is the perfect definition of those who called themselves professionals. If you think they are professionals you are fool. Many of them work in parking garages in the US or Europe and there is no any truth to their claim. Meles wants to use those self proclaimed professionals to get access to the Sea to export bulk potash at no cost. In one of his recent interviews Meles said he is considering Assab for potash export. But how can he materialize that? Here is his plan
1. By demanding a sanction of military equipment destroy the defense capability of Eritrea
2. By demanding an Economic sanctions on Eritrea destroy the resilience of Eritreans.
3. Collect Eritrean stooges and Ethnic organizations to serve similar objective to OPDO and AFDEM.
4. Invade Eritrea and occupy Assab.
5. After securing Assab work to overthrow the government of Eritrea.
6. Put a puppet government in Eritrea
7. Secure the self determination of Afars and kunama.
8. Finally secure Assab and Badme for ever and make Eritrea another Somalia.
Does Meles tell his agenda to the so called professionals? The Answer is no, because he is Isaias minus honesty (wikileakes). That is why we Eritreans have fight not for Isaias but for the beloved country Eritrea. That is why it is important stand up for Eritrea under any circumstance. Isaias is temporary by Eritrea lives for ever.
Writing too much cannot bring relief to President Isaias Afewerki.
The journalists and the whole politician have a misunderstanding toward the Eritrean people. When I was in Ethiopia, I even tried to approach and look at the self-caller “Eritrean oppositions” and they totally do not have any clue to our people demands in general and to the Eritrean youths in particular. However, there are a numbers of youths fleeing the country; I have never seen that a single Eritrean refugee agreed with the Weyane and oppositions politics principle. It has been already known that the Eritrean youths mind is already setup when you talk about domestic politics matter. Their only interest is economic issues. As it has been seen, it is very desperate to the opposition to see the youths are working and helping their government and people, as soon as they arrives anywhere in the world. This is one of the reasons that bring a big question mark in the mind of weyane and oppositions about the Eritrean youths mind set to ward politics.
Crap!
Eritreans are given too much credit for what they deserve.
Dena’kur!
The stooge of Arabs Alqaeeda-Alshabab terrorist TOOL Isaias regime, is going to be removed by the democratic forces of Eritrea.A democratic Eritrean state is to be established by the people of Eritrea, nothing else, what an empowerment of the peace is given to Horn of African countries to live in peace, otherwise who are scared of peoples control of their own fate in a cry of faul crocodille tears to save a dictator like dani on the expense of the Eritrean people who are destitute under the yoke of a security state administered by a chain of spies called ‘merahiti Gujile’ who extended upto diaspora level spies ,inorder to kill freedom of speech from aboard too,to dny Eritrean right by what so ever means to serve a dictator.Enough is enough, lets take our affairs in our handS and control our destiny.REMOVE A DICTATOR ISAIAS.LONG LIVE ERITREA!!
What some Eritreans don’t understand is; you can be whatever you want in your country, whatsoever! But, trying to establish a country on the ashes of Ethiopia can only put you into the ashes!
Ethiopia trying capture Assab & Afar … Blah blah… Is a mere excuse to the failure of the Eritrean leadership! Propaganda could never replace the truth!
really?
Ethiopia is stalked by famine, the IMF thinks its economy is in shambles, its ethnocentric rulers are engaged in mass arrests and terrorizing all non tigrayans…
Eritrea has the fastest growing economy globally (The Economist), no famine, no civil war, a government with rock solid popular support of all social sectors…
Wake up woldit..
Two third of Eritrean exist by food aid click here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VctEO5hWN04
the video report shown is from 2004. In 2002 Eritrea had declared drought has hit its people. In 2005 food security campaign was launched in earnest. As of 2010, Eritrea is the only sub Sahara country in Africa to have gone with no food aid for six years straight! For 2011, with late but evenly distributed rain and large scale modern farming,Eritrea is expecting a bumper harvest. So, it will be a slow year for the aid merchants. Now, compare this can do spirit with that of the minority genocidal regime of TPLF. For the first time in history the people of the the fertile and lush agricultural landscape of southern Ethiopia (people who could easily be Africa’s bread basket) are starving. Yes, for the first time ever!!! In the backdrop of all this some 896 “investors” are rampaging that area, burning forests, destroying wildlife and displacing the people in order to grow cash crops for export. So Azeb Mesfin can shop in Paris, London and New York to her hart’s delight.

The government of Ethiopia is currently engaged in state sponsored terrorism of its mass population. The likes of Michael Abraha (known by some as hired hand) are betting on a dead horse. Yet,the funniest part is they call patriotic Eritreans “blind supporters” how ironic? Eritrea is not for sale! (HE PIA to the aljazeera)
Response to Tesmamu:
I explain it as a politically motivated falsehood. Here is why:
1- today wed 14/09/2011 VOA Tigrinia has interviewed UNHCR rep. in Tigray stated that Eritreans arriving have no signs of hunger. Right on, slap on the face to ill wishers
2- please read:
“Eritreans are not and will no be measured by the standards that the bigoted Westerners have set for Africans. They will not be cornered into the stereotypes of Africa that is hungry and dependent on handouts from the West. That is what Eritrea fought against in-principle and won independence. Self Reliance is a motto Eritrea breathes, eat and live by. Self reliance is not a proclamation for show or dogma; it is assurance to the very existence of Eritrea .
That is why it was perplexing to see a white South African Martin Plaut report about Eritrea based on fabrications, innuendo’s and assertions in order to create a new narrative of what Eritrea is or isn’t. Martin Plaut went to Ethiopia , a country at war with Eritrea , and reported stories about Eritrea based on the direction of Ethiopian authorities and proclaimed there is famine in Eritrea . Due to the sensitivities of naming the draught situation it took countless of reports for the UN to declare famine in Ethiopia and Somalia . Yet, Plaut took it upon himself to declare famine on Eritrea . How deceitful is that? The UN uses five categories to determine famine and the UN did not even place Eritrea in the list of countries affected yet, Martin Plaut took it upon himself to declare it.
To buttress his claim, Plaut sited, “satellite imagery from a weather monitoring group,” as if satellites can look inside a village or a home; noted personal accounts from people he spoke to in the Ethiopian side; sited Susan Rice’s insinuation that there may be famine that Eritrean authorities are hiding and flew with that.
This clearly shows Martin Plaut of the BBC and ilk are not journalists. They are agents of government-media organizations that are determined to create wars, instability, and hatred-based killings amongst people of a nation. They are agents of destruction, mayhem and genocide. They are experts at creating falsehood and misinformation in countries and governments of interest. They are brutal media mercenaries unconcerned about the people and issues they are reporting about. It is about the agendas they try to further. In this case, it is to make a long standing case against the government of Eritrea . To show pattern of civilian abuses so they can take actions as they have in Libya and other places.
It is not necessary or a standard for the BBC and other Western media organizations to send reporters in order to do due diligence and provide facts for the reports they give anymore. Instead they are relying on second and third hand information and report, as if it is factual information. And unfortunately, there is no scrutiny or penalty for gross misrepresentations these agents of evil spew regularly.
Martin Plaut is a South African-byproduct of the apartheid-era that thinks nothing about the suffering of the African people. If he did, he would have dared to look into his own homeland and cry for the suffering of his people that are facing starvation, the highest HIV infection rates and deaths due to AIDS related diseases. He would have gone to the shanty towns and face the inequalities his predecessors are subjecting South Africans into. Or he could have talked about his current residence UK that was mired by riots stemming from economic hardships. Instead Plaut-BOY found it convenient to talk about the only African country that found proven answers to poverty. How sad!
Let this be known to Plaut; Eritrea has reached a platform that no African country has reached strictly by relying on her self. There is also nothing Plaut or ilk can do about the riches of Eritrea poses. In addition, there is nothing Plaut can do to change the path of success Eritreans have created. And nothing he can do about the impenetrable unity amongst Eritreans. There is also another fact Plaut-BOY needs to know. Eritreans never abandon their own like he abandoned his African “brethren.”

You are right. We Eritreans paid too much to relieve Eritrea from the jaws of the hyena. Our brothers and sisters gave their dear life to secure independence for us. Things have taken too long to improve mainly because of the misguided political leadership of our president. However I do not understand how the hell in the world can an Eritrean who have seen the suffering of deported Eritreans can stand with Meles for a picture. Meles is the worst human being in the world. He is dishonest and lacks self confidence. To his credit he is good at begging. Previously many Eritreans were mislead about his policy towards Eritrea. They taught he is more lenient than the other TPLF cadres. However such misconception was proven false by wiki leaks. The truth is the economic improvement in Eritrea has been a great headache for Meles. Almost to every American official who visited Addis Ababa raised the importance of Economic sanctions on Eritrea. Do you think Meles believes money generated from mining will be used for other purposes than buying food for Eritreans, The answer is no. The reason is full stomach Eritrean is a threat to his grand objective of greater Tigrai. Eritreans have to starve so that they will be housed in shimelba and help meles collect foreign currency. They should be hungry so that Meles boasts Eritrea is worse than Ethiopia. My impression is meles is the number one enemy of Eritrea. Under any circumstance Eritreans should not put any trust in him. The lie and fabrication has only one objective. To dismantle the state of Eritrea. No to meles’s wicked agenda, Yes to democratic reform from within Eritrea.

Alem writes a comment and Alem agrees with Alem under difrent names, how i like cyber poletics, the only ground left for Shabia to fight a losing battle.
Tutu, if you thought you were in Aiga, Asmarino, Awate or Assena, please understand that you did not. This is foreign policy journal which is out of reach of woyane and its stooges. Your boss Bereket Simon (fake Amhara) might be preparing to file a complaint that does not have any chance of being heard.
I agree, I am one of the Asmara university students that i fled to “Waela nihbi” then to Shimelba in 2001. which we finally regretted of our wrong action. But we did not have any choice after it had happened once . so, we have to find a way to go to any western country. As a matter of fact, 99% of my refugee friends that have been arriving in any western country are turned to be strong supporter of government of Eritrea and their people. And I slowly start to figure out that the youth stand is very timing and I finally have made a decision to cooperate with my government and people as well. As Meles is working day and night to hurt and destroy Eritrea, we Eritrean must united and work hard with our government to defeat the evil mental of Meles. And I would like to suggest that we have to be conscious against the western and weyane media for they are working to black mail Eritrea and its hard working people.

MELES is panicked and calling may day…may day…they are all TERRORISTS…pleassss USAAAA!
Michael Abraha,
Would you please muzzle this high-sounding-nothing renegade US citizen who goes by the name Thomas Mountain for good?
He is a useless Mercenary journalist. In fact, he is not an Eritrean and is active relentlessly sewing the seeds of hatred and animoisty among and between black African countries and peoples.
Sanction against Eritrea is needed to maintain peace and stability in the region. If the security council failed to do thry what regional states might take the matter into their hands and oust Isaias from power. Eitrea should change its behaviour towards its neighbours, its been provoking each and every country in the region.
The country has been arming and supporting all kinds of armed groups in the region to blackmail its neighbours. IGAAD and AU should put their points clear to the Security Council. Eritrea has caught redhanded trying to bomb AU conference in Addis Ababa using local local terrorist groups. These coward act of Eritrea should be dealt with accordingly.
Thos of you who try to ressucitate the dying regime in Asmara should consider your stand. you need to learn from Gadaffi and Mubarek. Dictators cant keep on staying in power by crating instability at home or abroad.
Ethiopian government need to change its policy towards Eritrea, If Eritrea continues to indirectly attack Ethiopia the EPRDF led government of Ethiopia should use all its resources to aust Isias from power. We all know what the Ethiopian government is capable of doing, in 2000 Eritrean regime was on the verge of collapse after the military offensive launched by Ethiopia. 1/3rd of Eritrean territory was under ethiopian control. Tesenay, Barentu and vast Eritrean lands were in Ethiopian hands, Isaias accepted to settle the border conflict peacefully and Ethiopian troops withdrew.
Now any kind of attack on Ethiopia should be retaliated.
stop your razzmatazz and get out of badim. Else, badim will be your downfall idiot.
facts, the pasta boiler & shoe shiner:
What a full-blooded IDIOT are you? Badme was Ethiopian, is Ethiopian now and will remain so Forever!
The colonial treaty that delimits the border b/n Ethiopia and the then Italian colony Eritrea clearly puts well within Sovereign Ethiopian jursidication. Go, read it and try to draw a staraight line as strictly as possible as is written on the treaty official document.
If Badme were to be Eritrean, why did you invade & occupy it then?
Capito, Ante Eri-House Nigger!
Alem,
Do not blame Eritreans that have gone back to Ethiopia to start a new life. The same people that helped the government of Eritrea did not get anything out of this so called freedom but insult and disgraceful treatment from the Issays regime and from the military in general. Yes some are going back because things are better in Ethiopia for those who like to work hard and lead a peaceful life. They do not want any involvement.
If you live outside of Eritrea why don’t you go back and see how things are run there.
It is very predictable that if Meles do does not leave Eritrean territory, the Eritrean people will not have a night sleep to overthrough weyane. so that weyane has to take a durable action on wards.
to all Eritreans living inside and outside eritrea!
The eritrean military movement will release plan of action of the operation of the quedeta to overthrow the dictator Isayas and his small ruminants.
watch and follow our movement and participate.
Wake up agame and go look for ur missing leader, eritreans don’t need ur advice,
It was wrong for those 62 Eritreans to sit down with lair Meles and support for the sanction. They are traitors pure and simple. It is one thing to demand for democracy from your leaders. It is completely a crime, however, to sell out your country specially in this critical time. I, myself, sometimes criticize our leaders for not practicing free market economy and being democratic. However, I despise any loser Eritrean jeopardizing Eritrea and meets Meles. That is how those Eritreans once sold Eritrea to Haile Sellasie. We need to find out who these 62 names are and expose them.
