Who? Pakistani government has banned the access to several social networking websites.

What? Popular Internet networks like Facebook, YouTube, Flickr! and Wikipedia have been completely blocked by the Pakistani telecom authorities.

Where? Internet users across Pakistan will not be able to have any kind of access.

When? The ban came into effect when the supreme court of Pakistan banned Facebook on Wednesday, 19 May.

Why? The censorship was imposed following an online competition of drawing Prophet Muhammad hosted by a group on Facebook. Muslims consider any depiction of Prophet Muhammad as blasphemous. Many Muslims have urged the authorities to take strict action against the instigators of the hate campaign.

How? Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) directed all the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country to block the access to most popular social networks indefinitely. There will be a review of the decision after 31 May.
