Al Jazeera — Bahrain: An island kingdom in the Arabian Gulf where the Shia Muslim majority are ruled by a family from the Sunni minority. Where people fighting for democratic rights broke the barriers of fear, only to find themselves alone and crushed.
This is their story and Al Jazeera is their witness – the only TV journalists who remained to follow their journey of hope to the carnage that followed.
This is the Arab revolution that was abandoned by the Arabs, forsaken by the West and forgotten by the world.
This is a rather one sided depiction of entire incident. Agreed the government was wrong in the way it initially tried to crush the protestors, but this was then quickly changed to a more inclusive approach in handling the situation. Further more the royal family is doing quite a bit to get all the parties involved in the national discussion. Also, most of the rioters who had lost their jobs are now being reinstated. If the ruling family is empathetic to these people, its time the other parties also acknowledge the efforts of the ruling family. Protesting on the streets, masked vigilantes burning garbage bins and detroying public property, this is not quite the way to get your voice heard. They can take a cue from the manner in which one 74 year old man in India got the graft bill approved without so much as throwing a stone!!
