Something simply, easy and accurate. I read a biography on Mohammad and felt that it gave me a greater understanding for Islam then I would have gained from reading the Quran (which I have not done). As with Christianity it seems that you get a better picture by looking at the prophet himself rather then someone's often times biased/ distorted explanation of the theology. I feel that I cannot do this as well with Islam due to potential cultural misunderstandings.

Jeremy,
This is a very good review but I am left wondering if you can recommend a good source for Quran study.
